Cathy Tobin was born and raised in Cork, Ireland, where she worked in administration and project management, before moving to Florida in 1993. Shortly after her arrival in the US, she began Montessori primary teacher training at OMTEI (Orlando Montessori Teacher Education Institute). After many years’ experience as a primary lead teacher in private Central Florida Montessori schools, she went back to school to earn an education degree, and in 2012, came to work at Montessori of Winter Garden Charter School.
Cathy left briefly to spend a year teaching at a traditional model, Title 1 (low income) school, which was exactly the challenge and learning experience she had hoped it would be. Further convinced of the power of Montessori to positively impact all children, she returned to MWGCS in 2014, on a mission to support the growth of public Montessori. In 2016, after graduating with an M.Ed in Educational Leadership she moved from teaching to administration, in the role of assistant principal. MWGCS moves to a new campus for the 2017-2018 school year and becomes Innovation Montessori Ocoee, with its projected student enrollment increasing to 800 by 2021. In her free time, Cathy loves to travel the world, and to write. She has two blogs, unfoldingeducation.com and corkwoman.com.
